Revelstoke And Area Emergency Management Program (RAEMP)
Revelstoke's emergency organization results from the following legislation and regulation:
The BC Emergency Program Act
The Act sets out responsibilities for emergency management within the province. The City of Revelstoke and Area "B" of the Columbia and Shuswap Regional District are each a 'local authority' and specifically required to plan for emergencies. The Act states that:
A local authority must prepare or cause to be prepared local emergency plans respecting preparation for, response to and recovery from emergencies and disasters.
And:
...establish and maintain an emergency management organization to develop and implement emergency plans and other preparedness, response, and recovery measures...
In summary, the City and CSRD are required as local authorities to:
o Assess the risks of major emergencies
o Plan for response
o Plan for recovery
o Ensure training, exercises, and other forms of preparedness
o Set up and maintain a permanent emergency management organization, and
o provide appropriate funding.
